Medical Scientists in Human Genetics is a subgroup of SASHG, and is primarily focused on addressing and discussing the issues unique to trained medical scientists working in the South African diagnostic arena.

- To promote and strengthen the role of Medical Scientists in the field of Human Genetics working in South Africa.
- To establish a channel that allows access to information for Medical Scientists in the field of Human Genetics working in South Africa.
- Strive for ethical and quality standards of teaching and training for Junior medical scientists
- Develop strategies to maintain continuing education programs that are relevant and current in the medical science.
- Maintain quality assurance and standards in the service rendered by qualified medical scientists (Diagnostics, Research, Teaching and Training).
