Under the auspices of the SASHG, Young and Early Career Geneticists Group (YEGG) draws together the junior members of the SASHG organisation. We aim to provide both a meeting place and a voice for all students (BTech, Honours, MSc, MMed and PhD); postdoctoral fellows, interns, medical genetics registrars and junior faculty members involved in Human Genetics research and clinical services in South Africa and beyond.

Goals

The YEGG has four main goals:

  1. Increase awareness of professions within the field of Human Genetics in Southern Africa and internationally.
  2. To improve communication and networking amongst up-and-coming geneticists across different institutions using social media and other avenues.
  3. To provide a platform to address issues specifically affecting young and emerging geneticists including:
    – availability of research projects
    – career development and guidance
    – funding opportunities
    – mentorship opportunities
  4. Foster collaboration across the different disciplines within Human Genetics.
